Fresh paint is one of the fastest ways to change how a home looks and feels. Our painting services in Philadelphia and South Jersey cover the jobs that make the biggest difference: walls and ceilings, crown molding and trim, doors, decks and even that second-hand table you want to bring back to life.

A great paint job is mostly preparation. We fill, sand, caulk and prime before the first color coat goes on, then cut in clean lines and finish with even coverage. Home Exchange arrives with the brushes, rollers, ladders and drop cloths the job needs, and we work around your schedule.

Painting services we offer

Interior walls and ceilings

Whether it’s one bedroom or a whole floor, we prepare the surfaces properly and apply paint evenly so you don’t see roller marks or patchy color once the light hits it. If walls need more than a quick patch, our drywall team can repair them first, and water stains or sagging plaster overhead are a job for our ceiling repair service.

Crown molding and trim

Trim is where a paint job looks professional or doesn’t. Crown molding, baseboards, window casings and chair rails need steady hands, careful masking and the right sheen. We can refresh just the trim or paint it as part of a full room.

Door painting

Doors take a beating from hands, pets and furniture. We paint interior doors, closet doors and front doors, removing hardware so you don’t get paint on hinges and knobs. A newly painted front door is a small project that adds a lot of curb appeal.

Deck staining and finishing

Philadelphia summers and freeze-thaw winters are hard on wood. Staining or sealing a deck protects it from moisture and sun and slows down splitting and rot. We clean and prep the boards first so the finish soaks in. For repairs or new boards, see our deck and patio services.

Furniture painting and staining

Kitchen chairs, dressers, side tables and built-ins can be sanded, stripped, stained or painted for a fresh look without buying new.

Signs it’s time to repaint

  • Marks and scuffs no longer come off with gentle cleaning.
  • Paint is peeling, cracking or bubbling, often a sign of moisture worth checking.
  • Trim and doors look yellowed or chipped.
  • Your deck looks gray, rough or splintered.
  • You are getting ready to sell, rent out or move into a property.

Our painting process

  1. Walkthrough and quote. Tell us which rooms or surfaces you want painted and share photos. Request a quote and we’ll talk through colors, sheens and timing.
  2. Protection. Floors, furniture, fixtures and hardware are covered or removed.
  3. Prep. We patch holes, fill cracks, sand glossy surfaces, caulk gaps and spot-prime repairs and stains.
  4. Paint. Cut-in lines first, then rolled or brushed coats for even coverage.
  5. Clean-up and final check. We remove tape, touch up, put things back and walk the space with you.

What affects the cost of a painting job

  • Size and number of rooms or surfaces. More square footage means more time and paint.
  • Condition of the surfaces. Extensive patching, peeling paint or water damage adds prep.
  • Ceiling height and stairwells. Tall walls and tricky access need extra setup.
  • Trim detail. Ornate molding and lots of doors and windows take longer than plain walls.
  • Color changes. Going from dark to light usually needs primer and an extra coat.
  • Paint quality. Higher-grade paints cost more but cover better and last longer.

How to prepare for painting day

  • Pick your colors early and test samples on the wall in daylight and lamplight.
  • Remove wall art, small decor, electronics and fragile items.
  • Let us know about any areas with past leaks or moisture.
  • Plan for good ventilation, and keep pets and kids out of the work area.
  • For decks, clear furniture and planters and trim plants back from the edges.

FAQ

Painting questions, answered

Do you move furniture and protect floors?

We protect floors with drop cloths, cover furniture and mask fixtures and hardware before we start. We can shift most furniture to the middle of the room, but it helps if you clear small items, electronics and anything fragile beforehand. At the end we put things back where they belong and leave the space clean.

Can you fix holes and cracks before painting?

Yes, and we recommend it. Paint shows every dent and crack, so we patch nail holes, fill small cracks and sand rough spots before priming. Larger damage, such as water-stained ceilings or failing plaster, may need drywall or ceiling repair first, which we can also handle as part of the same project.

How long does interior paint take to dry?

Most interior latex paints are dry to the touch within a few hours and can take a second coat the same day, but they need longer to fully cure. Go gently on freshly painted walls and trim for a couple of weeks, avoid scrubbing, and give doors extra time before closing them tightly against the frame.

Should I stain or paint my deck?

Stain soaks into the wood and lets the grain show, and it tends to wear gradually rather than peel. Paint gives a solid color and hides worn boards but can peel on surfaces that see heavy foot traffic and weather. We'll look at the condition of your deck and talk through which finish makes more sense for it.

Do you supply the paint?

We can supply paint and materials, or use paint you've already picked out. If you're buying it yourself, let us know the brand, color and sheen when you request a quote so we can confirm quantities and recommend the right primer for the surface.
