Your bedroom should be the most restful room in the house. Our bedroom handyman services in Philadelphia take care of all of it, so the room finally feels finished.

Home Exchange is a family-run company that has been building and renovating since 1986 and serving Philadelphia since around 2005. We arrive with the tools and materials the job needs, respect your schedule and leave the room clean. Every job is covered by our Done Right Promise.

Bedroom handyman services we offer in Philadelphia

Bed frame and bunk bed assembly

Modern bed frames, platform beds, storage beds, bunk beds and loft beds can come with dozens of parts and confusing instructions. We assemble them correctly, check that everything is tight and square, and anchor tall pieces where needed. For dressers, desks and other furniture, see our assembly services.

Closet door installation and repair

Sliding doors that drag, bi-folds that pop off their pins and doors that won’t stay closed are everyday frustrations. We adjust, repair or replace tracks, rollers, hinges and the doors themselves. Mirrored and barn-style doors are popular options for brightening a smaller room.

Custom shelving, bookcases and closet storage

Storage is the difference between a calm room and a cluttered one. We install floating shelves, bookcases and closet organizers that fit your space and how you use it. For built-ins and custom woodwork, our carpentry team can design pieces that fit awkward alcoves and sloped ceilings.

Drywall repairs and finishing

Doorknob holes, nail pops, cracked corners and old anchor holes are common in bedrooms. We patch, tape, mud and sand so the repair blends into the wall. Bigger jobs are covered on our drywall page.

Lighting and ceiling fans

A single dim fixture rarely does a bedroom justice. We install new light fixtures, replace worn-out ones and add ceiling fans that make summer nights in Philadelphia a lot more comfortable.

Painting and finishing touches

Fresh paint is the fastest way to change how a room feels. Our interior painting includes wall prep, trim and doors. We can also hang mirrors, artwork, curtain rods and wall-mounted TVs.

Signs your bedroom needs some attention

  • You avoid the closet because the doors are a fight every time
  • There’s nowhere to put things away, so they live on the floor or a chair
  • Walls show holes from old shelves, pictures or furniture bumps
  • The room feels dark even with the lights on
  • A child has outgrown their room, or a spare room needs to become a guest room

How we approach a bedroom project

  1. Share your list. Tell us everything you’d like done, even the small items.
  2. We plan it. We decide the right order: wall repairs before paint, paint before shelving, and so on.
  3. We arrive prepared. We bring the tools, fasteners and materials so the work isn’t interrupted.
  4. We protect your space. Furniture and floors are covered where needed, and we clean up as we go.
  5. We review the results with you. You check everything before we pack up.

What affects the cost of bedroom work

  • How many tasks are on the list and how they fit together
  • Materials, such as the style of closet doors, shelving or fixtures you choose
  • Wall condition, since older plaster walls may need more prep than drywall
  • Ceiling height and access for fans and light fixtures

Tips to get the most from your visit

  • Have furniture and fixtures delivered before we arrive, with all boxes in the room.
  • Decide where you want shelves, art and the TV, or mark spots with painter’s tape.
  • Clear the closet if we’re working on doors or organizers.
  • If you’re painting, choose colors in advance so we can plan prep and drying time.

FAQ

Bedroom questions, answered

Can you assemble a bunk bed or loft bed safely?

Yes. We follow the manufacturer's instructions closely, make sure every bolt and bracket is tight, check guardrails and ladders, and anchor tall pieces to the wall where recommended. A properly assembled bunk bed is much safer than one put together in a hurry, especially for kids who climb on everything.

What kind of closet doors can you install?

We install and repair sliding bypass doors, bi-fold doors, hinged doors, mirrored doors and barn-style doors. We can also adjust or replace tracks, rollers and hardware on existing doors that drag or fall off. If the opening is out of square, as many older Philadelphia homes are, we shim and adjust so the doors work smoothly.

Can you add shelving to a small bedroom?

Definitely. Floating shelves, built-in bookcases, wall-mounted units and closet organizers can add a lot of storage without eating floor space. We secure shelving into studs or with the right anchors for the load, so it stays level and safe when it's full of books or bins.

Can you do several bedroom projects in one visit?

Yes, and we encourage it. Assembling a bed, hanging shelves, patching walls and swapping a light fixture often fit together well. Send us your full list when you request a quote and we'll plan the order of work and bring everything needed.
